Romancing the Master Bedroom – Color and Clutter

By Pamela O’Brien

In even the nicest homes, often the master bedroom can be a total wreck.  Since it is usually private, removed from the common areas and easy to close off from the rest of the house, many people use it as a storage depository and make it the last place they decorate.  Come on, you deserve better than that!  Sleep, rest and relaxation are critical to your health, happiness and well-being.  Having a safe, comfortable and calming bedroom is a gift to give yourself and your loved ones.

Even simple upgrades can greatly enhance your bedroom.  First of all, try to store things properly and out of sight.  Get rid of what you don’t want or need and put the other items away.  Clean out those dressers and nightstands.  Do you really need a 15-year-old sweatshirt and a birthday card from 1998?

A wonderful hue on the walls can be very encouraging.  Select a simple, sophisticated neutral or a calming shade of a color that you love.  Tans, beiges, taupes, greens, blues and golds are all excellent options.  Red, orange and harsh or bright colors are usually better in other areas.

A little de-cluttering and a fresh coat of paint is a great start to a better master bedroom.  Next time we’ll talk about decorating ideas to take your bedroom to a whole new level of comfort.
